Hooper empowers individuals with information that can save lives and prevent harm by providing ongoing educational opportunities to promote safety both on and off the job site.
At Hooper, safety is more than just a catch phrase, it’s our most highly regarded core value. Hooper requires total team commitment to maintain an integrated safety culture and prioritize our zero-accident philosophy. We remain deeply invested in the health and safety of our employees, customers and people in the communities we serve. Hooper’s dedicated team of safety experts minimize injury and prevent loss through extensive program and policy development, training, and site inspections. Most importantly, our unique approach to safety encompasses not only the physical, but also the mental and emotional wellbeing of our employees, clients and partners.
A Holistic Approach
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the construction industry has the second-highest suicide rate by occupation in the United States. This alarming statistic illustrates how prevalent safety risks are across our industry, including ones we can’t always see. Hard manual labor, long hours, and lack of rest can take a toll on the body and mind. Outside stresses and distractions of everyday life can interfere with the ability to stay present, focused, and safe on the job. Hooper recognizes that being safe extends beyond wearing hardhats and safety glasses. We take genuine interest in our team members’ wellbeing and proudly offer free and confidential employee assistance programs to anyone struggling or in need of support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.
Dedicated Staff
Hooper’s safety team is a stand-alone division that works autonomously to inspire individuals to be actively involved in their own safety and ensure they can recognize, eliminate and control hazards. Currently, Hooper employs 17 full-time safety professionals led by a highly qualified Director of Safety with more than 30 years of experience in the field. Many members of our safety team many are Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) and have a wide variety of backgrounds and educations from masters degrees and OSHA 500 credentials, to CIC crane certifications, However, the most important attribute of these professionals is their ability to interact and communicate with the entire workforce.
Top Quality Training
Training has always been the cornerstone of Hooper’s successful safety program. Training classes range from First Aid/CPR/AED and OSHA 10/30 Hour Classes to national crane certification and conflict de-escalation. In the construction industry, our workforce experiences many ebbs and flows of employees. With new employees hired all the time, and in many instances, located across the country, our safety and IT departments collaborated to develop a comprehensive mobile safety training program. Applicable modules are selected for each employee, depending on the nature of their intended work, and software is deployed remotely over laptops or tablets on-site. This enables us to rapidly deploy workers who are armed with the knowledge and skills to work safely and return home without injury.
